"I believe if we act decisively and carefully, the risks can be overcome — I would even say our odds are good. And there's a hugely better world on the other side of it. But we need to understand that this is a serious civilizational challenge."
This is a serious civilizational challenge
Dario Amodei has always come across as the most level headed compared to the likes of Altman and Musk when it comes to AI. Where at a fork in the road where it can become hugely beneficial or a disaster slowly unfolding.
Already too often I am seeing people just 'trusting' AI has got it right and that's hugely problematic when, for example, someone without any background in coding deploys an app online that people can sign up for. They'd have no background in QA or even knowing what to look for to make sure that user data is secure.
Then there is the societal impact. We don't know how this will change the labour market and I don't see government's planning for this. Universal basic income may become a necessity, are we ready to make that change?
